I was visiting a Lodge this week, and a Brother was
relating his experiences while recently visiting Finland. He related the courtesy and hospitality of the Brethren he met, the beauty of the buildings, and a most curious aspect of the meeting he was able to attend. For some reason, he and his fraternal escort were asked to remain outside the Lodge room while the Lodge was opened. After a brief time, the master asked him to join the brethren, and he sat in on the remainder of the meeting. Not speaking the local language well, he did not understand the reason he was not allowed to attend the beginning of the evening. As he was telling us of his experiences, I found myself wondering why he was not allowed into the Lodge until after it was opened. Why didn't the Master of the Lodge let this visiting Brother see the start of the meeting? Then it dawned on me. It was obvious, and really needed no explanation. Want to know why he wasn't allowed to see the start of the meeting? Simple. So simple, you will slap your forehead and say "Doh!" Ready? Ok. Here it is. It was a Finnish Lodge! |
