Default Deep Fryers

Anyone have a deep fryer? Was thinking about getting one, but not sure what to look for.

My neighbor has one and we will deep fry a turkey every year , other than that I can't be much help to you other than to caution you to be very careful with them . It's a good way to burn your house down with them . We use it at the end of his driveway well away from any structures .

I was looking for the smaller counter top ones. Someone brought me in some good fried seafood with one, and well, being in FL, I think its time to get one so it gives me a good reason to go fishing.

Oh , I thought you meant the big ones , sorry . We have a small one , it's a Cuisinart , that I use for hush puppies, fries and fish . Cuisinarts can be a little pricey , but they make a good product . Wish I was down your way , I've been craving some fresh Mahi Mahi and conch fritters . Mahi Mahi is all I eat when at the Outer Banks ,NC . I can get it around here , but it has set in the deli to long and it's just not the same . And I haven't had conch fritters in ages .

Did you just say a turkey? In a domestic deep fryer? Wow! you Americans obviously build things bigger than they do here (or it was a very small turkey!).

It's a big outdoor deep fryer and they hold big turkeys . Around Thanksgiving you'll start seeing on the news were people have burned their houses or garages down by using those big deep fryers to close to them and improperly .

I haven't had conch fritters in such a long time. That sounds good. I may have to go over the Sponge Docks and pick some up. Mahi Mahi is good, but I couldn't bring myself to deep fry something like that.

From what I hear, deep fried turkey is really good. The juices are kept inside the bird, and it doesn't take long to do it.

Here is a video of why you should be careful with doing this though.
Turkey Fryer Gone Wrong

If done correctly though you can avoid these problems.

My Brother gets to do a short video each year on the hazards of Christmas Tree fires for the local news channels. He gets to light a tree on fire every year.

Oh , I didn't mean to say I'd deep fry Mahi Mahi . I'd have to smack someone for ruining a piece of Mahi Mahi by deep frying it . I used to spend summers in Ocala with my older brother and would love to live down there . We used to drive down to the Keys , so I could pay homage to the greatest singer/songwriter to ever live , you know who I'm talking about . I'm a huge Parrothead . And that was where I found out how great conch fritters was and I wondered how I lived all those years without knowing about them .

Default flash fryer

You definitely want a flash deep fryer. These are the type that regulate the heat so well that after you have thrown in something room temp, or throw in frozen stuff, the heat returns to frying temp nearly immediately. These make for crispy, not oily fried stuff. The inside of the fried stuff are cooked perfectly. I vacillated a long time about getting a flash fryer as they are more pricey than the regular type of fryer. They also break down for much easier cleaning than I remember the regular fryers being. The reason I bought the one I did was because it was quite cheap on QVC or HSN (the one with Suzanne Sommers appears on). We got it a couple of years ago and we love it! I don't know if there are any of her fryers left, but it's definitely worth the price. I think any flash fryers are worth the price, and I won't ever go back to the old style fryer.

Well you learn something new every day! I'd never have imagined a fryer that large outside of a specialist catering environment.
