Default Shriner Santa loyal to sick youths

When Jan Jeffers, who works in the finance department of Canonsburg Hospital, heard that the Syria Shriners would no longer make their annual Christmas visit with Santa because there was no one free to take them through the hospital, she offered to do it.
That was 18 years ago.
Members of Shriners Caravan No. 2, encompassing Washington and Greene counties, will make the rounds with Santa and some helpful clowns Saturday, visiting patients, playing Christmas music and passing out candy bars, apples and balloons.
The Shriners are members of the Syria Temple, located in Cheswick, a fraternal organization based on the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.
"They are just a great bunch of guys," Ms. Jeffers said. "I have so much respect for them and what they do."
