Chicago crime

I have friends in Chicago, and they're telling me the crime their is getting horrendous. What do you think is contributing to this sudden upswing in violent crime in Chicago?

In towns across the boarder from me in West Virginia , violent crime has taken a huge upswing also in the last few years . You could not pay me to go to Charleston WVa . I quit watching my local news because of this , I just hope they keep it across the river and away from my little town . But as to why , with these towns drugs is the main problem .

More people un-employed, I think, tends to lead to more crime. Chicago has a long and violent history. I do not see it getting any better. You need to start with the children, get them educated and started on the right foot.

Unemployment is also a factor .

Well, in West Virginia's instance, they are in the drug pipeline from Detroit to Florida where they can get the drugs. All along that pipeline, the crooks are taking advantage of small town cops and committing more crimes. As far as Chicago, I agree with Jason that people out of work will create more problems. Summer is also a high crime time of the year because of the heat. Heat brings out the worst in people and they will also be out and about a lot more in good weather.

In Huntington Wva , very little is passing through as it is the last stop to be distributed around town and neighboring cities . They are getting the small time dealers to flip on their connections out of Detroit , where almost all the drugs are coming from . Meth is the problem they are having . I keep up with it from my buddy who is a cop there .

Crime (break ins) in my town is on the rise also . Unemployment is very high here , but that has nothing to do with it . It is drugs , prescription drugs to be exact . We do not have a meth problem , but an oxy problem . And this is why crime is on the rise , a person can sell one pill for anywhere from $5 to $25 a pill , and pill heads will pay any amount for them and they get that money by breaking into homes , robbing them and selling what they stole to local pawn shops . I have a pawn shop a block from my home and the cops are there 2 or 3 times a day .
