Default My Lambskin apron

I was practicing the Winding Staircase lecture that I was asked to give for a Fellowcraft degree tonight at a Lodge in my area this morning . And I got to thinking of my lambskin apron ,that was presented to me after I was Raised ,that is just setting in my wife's hope chest waiting for the day I pass onward and upwards to stand before that Great White Thrown . And I thought to myself , "wouldn't that apron mean more to me if I had made good use of it by wearing it to lodge " ? I answered myself , yes it would . So I am going to start wearing it in lodge rather than having it set in a dark chest serving no purpose . It would be nice to wear an actual Lambskin instead of some latex or cloth apron or my Past Master apron , an apron that I actually worked for , that was presented to me by my lodge and holds a true and deep meaning to me .

So , what do you do with your lambskin apron that was given to you when you were made a Freemason/Master Mason (if your lodge does give you one that is) ? What are your thoughts on this ?

I was told by the brothers in the lodge who presented my apron to me, you will wear this apron tonight (during the lectures of the Degree) and one other time, that will be when they put it on your body when you are placed in your casket. I have not really given it any more thought. You raise a valid point, what good is it doing laying in the bottom of a dresser drawer so it will stay flat, when it could be worn. The only reason I can come up with is to "keep it as an emblem of innocence un-spotted by the world."
I think I will e-mail the Grand Custodian and ask his opinion and find out if this is "just the way it has always been done" or is there an actual written rule.

Well , a lot of lodges in my area tell their new Master Masons this also , which in my jurisdiction , is really not true . We tell them, in my lodge , it is theirs to do what they want with them , BUT most put their's away until they have passed on . Yet there is nothing written that states that we are not allowed to wear them when ever we like , they are after all our own aprons . I mean think about it , what is the use in giving a brother an apron if he can not wear it to lodge and can only wear it when he is dead . Seems a waste to me , when they can use a cheap cloth apron for that .

I think they would look great wearing them for special occasions , Masonic funeral rites and degree work . Imagine , a new EA , FC or MM or the family of a Brother looking at all the Brothers on the sidelines or during a funeral service wearing those beautiful , pure white (true) lambskin aprons .

You know, that is a valid point. It is something I will have to think upon. I may wear mind when my Brother is brought in.
