Probably one of the most feared things a parent can have happen is for them to be notified their child is missing. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 2,000 children are reported missing every year, that equates to one child missing every 40 seconds.
In an attempt to assist parents in protecting their children, the Masons of the Rockport Masonic Center offer free of charge the Maine Masonic CHIP Program to any event, school or gathering in Camden or Rockport. This program is funded in total by the Freemasons and costs nothing for the parents when a child is CHIPped at an event.
According to Jeff Sukeforth of Amity Lodge #6 in Camden, the program provides a computer generated/printed fingerprint card with the child's photo, two wallet cards with the child's information and photo as well as a DVD with the child answering a few non-imposing questions. All this material is pertinent and extremely helpful to Law Enforcement should the unthinkable happen to a child. All material is given to the parents or guardian and nothing is retained by the Masons except a signed permission slip.
