![]() | Running around a parking lot, dancing and tossing a football with his dad, Eddie Shickel, it would be nearly impossible to tell that 11-year-old Jordan Shickel had been involved in a life-threatening accident last year. In October 2009, Jordan, suffered severe third-degree burns below the waist during a camping accident. The Shickels connected with the Shriners Hospital for Chilren in Cincinnati, and all of Jordan’s surgeries and rehabilitation took place there. In recognition of the boy’s recovery and the good work of the Shriners facility, the Normal Cornbelters welcomed Shriners International and the Shickel family to the team’s home game on Saturday night against the Southern Illinois Miners. The Shriners Mohammed Temple members, based in Bartonville, attended the game to raise awareness and to raise funds for the organization. “The hospital is top-notch,” said Eddie Shickel. “It’s the best. My goal in life is to raise money for Shriners.” Thirty-year member Bill Nicholads said the hospitals cover all of a patient’s expenses. The hospitals treat children 18 and under suffering from orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lips and palates. more CornBelters welcome Shriners after boys' recovery
