Default T.V. and children

Do you think T.V. has an overall good influence on children, or bad? I know it partly depends on what they watch and who they watch it with, but overall, is it a good thing?

I think that too much TV is not good. Studies have shown that even the way our brain perceives the light and movement can influence their learning. I let my girls watch tv but only for a period of time. I even stop the tv at times and show them how they sometimes act like tv zombies. I always tell them that TV will turn their brain to mush if they don't do other stuff like play, exercise, write, read.

Both. Everything in moderation and it seems people still forget that time and time again. I was raised with the lovely "children should be seen and not heard", to a point its true and to a point, its child neglect. I think too many sub out TV for "part time baby sitter" and then "wonder why", which seems silly to me.

I think that too much t.v. is bad for children. We only watch movies in my house and encourage coloring, numbers games, flash cards, playing outside, and swimming. All of which we enjoy as a family.

Yeah it depends on what they watch. My nephew watches TV so much, but his favorite channel is Discovery Channel, so the parents are a bit lenient about that.

My daughter watches Nick JR. It used to be called something else. But is full of semi-educational cartoons. It is stuff like Dora the Explorer. She loves that show at the moment. While we try to limit her TV time. But in the summer heat, it is hard. We used to take her at night to my brothers pool, but the rain has kept us from doing so. I'm hoping soon to start doing our nightly bike rides or walks.
