Masons honor local teachers

Teachers in the Brenham and Burton school districts were honored Monday by local Masons.

Graham Masonic Lodge No. 20 hosted its annual Teacher Appreciation Banquet, honoring top educators in the Brenham and Burton school districts.

Mason member Aaron Collier, who chaired the Public School Weeks program, said Public Schools Week was declared in 1962 by then-Texas Gov. Allan Shivers. That, said Collier, was a year before he joined the Masons.

“What we do here in Brenham is way above anything I’ve experienced in any of the other lodges,” he said. “That’s a tribute to the businesses and the community and the lodge, to form a solid team.”
