Default Masons help poor Oklahomans with utility bills

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is among the efforts planned during "Home Energy Aid Week — Oklahomans Helping Others with Utilities” to raise awareness that some Oklahomans need help paying their utility bills.

The ninth annual breakfast is 7 to 9 a.m. Friday at Myrtle Masonic Lodge No. 145, 125 SE 89.
Organizers said they hope to raise $5,000, which will be matched partially by utility companies and the Masons. The Salvation Army will distribute the money to Oklahoma City-area utility assistance programs.
Officials said the Salvation Army receives between 200 and 300 calls each week requesting bill-paying assistance. The number is expected to increase as temperatures remain high.
