Default Proper number of degrees between Compass points?

Fellas, I am starting a woodworking project that I need a little technical knowledge on. I am going to make a Square and Compass, but I cannot seem to locate a definitive source that illustrates the proper spread, in degrees, between the Compass points. This is {not for the Past Master} version, with the rocker beneath.

The figure I have seen indicates the spread to be 30 degrees either side of a center line for 60 degrees total. To me that seems to be too wide. So I'm seeking the sage advice of some of the more seasoned Bretheren on this one.

Appreciate your assistance.

I have read up on this myself , and it would be hard to nail down a correct answer . There are very many variatins as to how far the Compasses are spread . Take my three Masonic polo shirts for example , not a one of them are the same . I would say just fix them at an angle of 60 degrees and be done with it .

Sounds like a plan there Ashlar. I couldn't find anything specific either.

How about making the angle of the compasses match up with the square when laid on top?

Default Degrees in Square and Compass

Seems like I remember there being 60 degrees between the compass points. But I can't recall from where I know that.
