Do you carve them fancy or plain? The wife bought the tool carving kit and expects me to carve 4 pumpkins (one for every member of the house). We cleaned them out last night so it was a fun family time together, but the carving part with these fancy stencils I am not too sure about!

I don't carve them at all and when we were children in the North East of England it was turnips we carved. I suppose pumpkins weren't known there then!

I usually go fancy. I could only find two pics, I thought I had more.

Sukie , was it a pain to carve a turnip ?

I used to love carving my turnip because you could eat it as you did it! I love the taste of raw turnip. I suppose it was tougher than a pumpkin but as it was all we knew, we just got on with it, and turnips were pretty big in those days!

    Procrastination

Well I procrastinated and here we are, trick or treat is the day after tomorrow, and we have no pumpkin. I think that is just something we are going to skip this year.

Wow turnips that would be interesting! Jason, that is a nice pic! The carving was not an easy task, but fun with the kids and wife.

    Pumpkin

Nice picture! I love looking at pictures. As for a turnip that sounds interesting. It tempts me to go get some and try to carve them. McKitch, don't worry you can still celebrate Halloween with out a pumpkin!

My first pumpkin for 2010. Took just over an hour, which was surprising since it is so small. I've got 6 more tomorrow after morning work.

Well for any of you who are interested in amazing pictures of carved pumpkins, take a look at the photos in this link. The artist is based in Mitchigan and his talent is incredible!

I am lazy and lack a steady hand. I don't carve the pumpkins. We go crazy painting them with markers. The kids have fun because we also add props. Sometimes necklaces, paper flowers, hats, etc.

It depends on the year quite honestly. Last year we colored them with markers and this year we carved them out plain jack 'o' lantern style. We just did them a couple days ago and they will get thrown out tomorrow, so we didn't do the fancy...maybe next year.

I had a red & white one I tried to make a scary clown out of. I have not had a chance to transfer pictures yet.
