I was asked to become a dual member of a lodge down the road from me as I expressed interest in it . I am already an Honorary member there and spend just as much time there as I do my own lodge . I think I may just take them up on it , I do have the time for both lodges . How many others hold dual/plural membership ? What are your thoughts on it ?
I am. When under the same GL, there should be no problem. But be aware, when suspended in one, your are suspended in Both. Otherwise, you should have the opportunity to go though the Chairs in both Lodges, if you wish and great fellowship.
A question to satisfy my curiosity: If you are an honorary member already, why would you want dual membership? Would it be for the voting priviledge's etc?
That to me whould be the reason why. Not knowing you feelings on it. We do have a few dual members in my Lodge. The current WM is a PM of a nearby Lodge. I would do a dual myself for being an active member of that Lodge but if I'm already Honorary I might just enjoy the love
To work my way through their chair line is one of the reasons . And I have always wanted to be a member of that lodge since the I first time stepped foot in it . An Honorary membership is a wonderful thing , but I am limited to what I can do in the lodge . They do not mind me speaking up on issues they are having , but I do not feel right doing that . Plus I have become very tight with many of the Brethren there and many already look to me as just as much a member as their dues paying members , but I would like to make it official . Also , they have a different vibe there and I would like to have the best of both worlds , my laid back country lodge and this lodge . I really can not explain it . Just two entirely different styles going on that I enjoy .
From what you just said seems reason enough for me to do it. You're up on the rules, and you want to do the work.
I'm a member in my Home Lodge as well as a member in the Lodge I founded. It's no conflict for scheduling since I live far enough from my home Lodge now that I don't get to make it over there very often.
Well , I filled out my petition for dual membership . I was starting to have reservations about it but a Brother from said lodge made some good points . I am already at every one of their meetings , I am always filling in in one officer's chair or another and helping put on degrees , I am already on their Temple board of directors through my York Rite bodies (they own part of the building ) and have a vote on the repairs to the building and how the money should be spent . The only difference would be that I will now be a voting member within the Blue Lodge and carry a dues card . And as I told them , my Mother Lodge will always come first , to which they agreed that it should .
Congrats to you! I'm glad you made it official by getting a dues card. They are very fortunate to have you. You must be very busy as DDGM as well!
In addition to my home Lodge, I hold membership in a rural Lodge as well as the LoR. Once I move for a new job I will be affiliating to those Masonic bodies.
I'm looking into Plural Membership with a Lodge that doesn't go dark in the Summer months. We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday's they meet the 2nd and 4th.
WE just voted no to go dark, we have Stated communications 1st,3rd Monday, and posting 2nd,4ths. Already at Lodge once a week plus visiting other Lodges, the Widow's Sons, am still thinking about dualing into the Research Lodge at some point and I have a SR Brother who is stalking me. (SIGH).
