FAIR HAVEN — Want to buy a Masonic Temple? Borough officials are looking to unload theirs.
The building, which officials bought in 2006 to get a downtown parking lot, is going on the auction block Nov. 5. The bidding starts at $950,000 on the two-story, brick building at 788 River Road in the downtown business district.
Borough officials received three replies to a request for proposals on the building that were put out last month, said Mayor Michael Halfacre. One proposal was from Bike Haven, a bicycle shop interested in purchasing the former temple, another from a golf store, and a proposal to lease and eventually purchase the building from a preschool.
"The council favors an outright sale," Halfacre said. "To do that, we have to go to a live auction."
