FLOWERY BRANCH - The Boy Scouts of Troop 228, Flowery Branch are likely to remember this day, July 11th 2010. It was the day they gathered with members of Flowery Branch Masonic Lodge 212 to set the cornerstone for their new scout hut next to the Lodge on Spring Street, but by the time the event was over they witnessed a full Masonic traditional ceremony conducted by none other than the Georgia’s Grand Master, Leonard Buffington. Their hut, almost ready for occupancy, was given an Eagle Scout medal for display, and each Scout and Scoutmaster David Allen received a Grand Master’s coin and pin as a memento. Congressman Tom Graves also presented a U.S. flag that flew over the Capital in Washington. “I actually have goose bumps over this,” Allen said. “This is a permanent home just for the Boy Scouts. As long as Troop 228 is in existence this will be our home for us and only us. If something happens and the troop dissolves, it’s still a scout facility. Very few troops have a home that they can call their own; it’s rare thing.” Masons in full regalia enacted a procedure that dates back to ancient times. The John E. Runyon Memorial Scout Hut is the only scout facility in the state located on Masonic property according to Past Master and lodge treasurer Barry Roberts, who said the Scouts were meeting in the lodge dining room and now they have their own meeting place. more Flowery Branch Masons honor Boy Scouts | AccessNorthGa
