Last evening I delivered the Masonic Memorial Service for Ed Sutton, who followed me as master of our lodge. He was a great guy and I still smile whenever I think of him. I was very nervous speaking it before members of my lodge and before his family. It was the first time I ever delivered it for real. Thanks to my lodge brothers who came and to Rick Pridgen for helping me bring it from memorized to delivered. S&F
I have heard that before, but I came in with the attitude that I was doing it in his honor, to comfort the family. It's kinda like surgery. It's a difficult thing to steel yourself to do, but it is for a result that is needed. S&F
When we did a very close friend , brother , lodge secretary and my father-in-law , we barely kept it together . Our Chaplain/Past Master normally does the Masonic funeral and had to stop several times to gather himself and get it together . My mother in law and the rest of the family were moved by our show of emotions and they told me later that it showed we actually care for one another .
I barely made it through when I had to perform the service for one of my closest friends and Brother.
I will try to keep in my heart that it is an honor to perform this service and a privilege to be asked to do it. S&F
