Found this site via Lodge 44 that seems closest to me here in Vegas. I'm not a lodge member just exploring after Smithsonian program on Mason's peaked my interest. I realized many influential people in my life were Masons, some being Gene Nicholson of the lodge in Santa Barbara as well as Burl Ives family friends I grew up with. All The Best Brian
Welcome Brian, This is a great place to ask questions about the Fraternity. We'll be more than happy to assist in any way that we can! Enjoy your stay.
Thanks for the warm welcome, appears the lodges at least in Vegas close for the summer months so I thought I would go online to discover more.
Brian, that is a common practice among many Lodges around the US to go "Dark" during July and August. The term "going dark" merely means that the Lodge is not having regular meetings. I have been told that the practice is a holdover from pre-industrial America because this was a time when many communities were busy with the harvest and could not take time out for Masonic meetings. Whatever the origin, many Lodges are making the decision in recent years to meet year round while other Lodges retain the practice since many members use this time for vacations and such.
