What do you think of the situation in Arizona with SB 1070? Do you think Arizona is within their rights, or do you think they're overstepping their authority by trying to enforce Federal laws?
I think they have their heads screwed on straight. It's about time we start doing something and stop talking about it. I'd like to see other states following the lead.
I agree, every state should have the right to protect their borders. The INS spends money to pick up and deport illegals from the employers, why not spend that money to prevent them from coming in the first place. There is a company in my hometown that sends a person into Mexico to hire people and transport them here to work cheaper and displaces Nebraskan's who want to work.
I think they got it right . I have nothing against LEGAL immigrants , but we need to put a stop to those who sneak across our boarders illegally . I was talking to some Mexicans here in my town about this , who are here legally , and they are for it also . They took the time to put in the time and paper work to be here as legal immigrants and stated that these illegals are taking jobs from them also .
I think Arizona is right on and I can't believe the Obama administration is suing them when the Arizona law is a mirror of the Federal law. I hope Arizona wins that would be a real kick in the pants to the current administration.
I see their frustration. I've seen pictures of the amount of liter that they leave crossing the border. I've seen the news paper reports of the drug cartels openly saying they will setup snipers on the Mexico side to shoot our border patrol on or off duty. I've seen the news reports of our border patrol having gun fights with what is believed to be Mexico's army. I've seen the President of Mexico complain about AZ even though Mexico's immigration policy is much worse, have to carry a card, no government services, no required English government services, and more. And then I see our government apologize, and say the border is safe. Not to mention an illegal immigrant is allowed to sue a farmer after trespassing on his property and he holds them until authorities could arrive. I have nothing against those who follow the rules and come here. I've got many of friends who were not born in America. They work hard, and do not demand that I speak their language, although I have tried to learn some of it. In general they are good upstanding citizens.
I say good for them and shame on the Federal Govt. for not doing their job and putting Arizona in this predicament. All the border states need to be doing this.
Come on , JohnQ is right , how can AZ be sued for a law that is on the federal gov. books already !? Just because they have the b@!!s to put it into action .
I think it should have been enforced the way it was supposed to be a looooong time ago. If we HAD protected our borders all along the way Canada does we wouldn't be having this discussion. ENGLISH is our language, I see no reason for me or anyone else in this country to have to learn another language because someone decides to come here illegally. The illegal aliens do NOT have rights here. IF they wish to come here legally like MY family did back in the 1800's I would have no problem with it whatsoever. However, if they just decide they can come here with no plans to follow the laws, rules and regulations of this country-they certainly need to stay on their side of the border. I cannot see me deciding to move to France and then expecting France to receive me, pay me money for doing nothing, provide me with housing, give me food stamps to pay for food and then everyone there having to learn to speak English because I refuse to learn French. This situation steams my lobsters!
I fully agree with AZ! I can't believe they are trying to sue AZ for the law. It is AGAINST the law and ILLEGAL for them to be here. Their should be no discussion, you break the law (ANY of them) you should have to pay the consequences! Go back to your country and apply legally and I have no problem with it.
Grape , there is a small town in Kentucky that created a law that states all must speak English when dealing with sales clerks , wait satff , Government officials etc; etc; . In other words if you go to the mall in this town to make a purchase , you must speak english when dealing with the store employees , if you do not they reserve the right to refuse your business . And if you want a job , then you have to speak fluent English , and the employeer has the right not to hire you if you do not . My wife hates dealing with foreigners who do not speak our language at her store . It's frustrating , along with them always trying to haggle with her on the price .
