My father said that the world is not so safe as it used to be, and I tend to agree with that. Time by time we are threatened not only mentally, emotionally and verbally but also physically. In this case, do you think it is worth it to learn and practice a martial art?

Last spring my daughter and I both received our first degree black belts (karate). Our school focused a lot on real-world techniques and MMA-type stuff, so I believe it was really helpful. It was a 6+ year process...my daughter started before she was in school (now is almost 11). If nothing else, it was a great father/daughter experience we will never forget.

It would be worth it , if for nothing more than for your well being , physically and mentally .

Wow, your daughter is great. She hasn't even reached 11 and she has received the first degree black belt? I also learned karate when I still studied in college. I remember the last belt I received was the blue belt.

Learning a martial art is so much more than just about protecting yourself. It's also about physical and mental discipline that can help a person in so many other parts of their life. Go for it.

That's true Alex. It is also a kind of exercise which will improve your overall health. I don't practice karate anymore though. Now I prefer the less physically demanding exercises like walk and yoga.

How I wish I could learn martial arts. It could benefit me in the future just in case something bad happens to me. We have a lot of pickpockets, kidnappers, holduppers, thieves and other bad people around our place.

So, what keeps you from learning martial arts? Are you not able to find any martial art dojo in your location, or do you just not have time to attend martial art classes?

This really helps. I have been trying to convince my husband that it would be a great idea to have our little daughter learn martial arts. He is worried that she is going to get hurt. However, I keep telling him, it will help keep her safe.

I practice judo. It's more cumbersome and seem more like wrestling but I enjoy it. It does make a great deal of difference in my attitude. I like to spar and enjoy learning new moves.

That's great Eoin. Yes I also think it's more like wrestling. Actually I was interesting to learn judo but I thought it's for the bigger and stronger guys LOL.
