The Freemasons have been a part of Scranton's history for the past 160 years and have fostered the growth of the Masonic Temple on North Washington Avenue since its inception more than 80 years ago.
And during a ceremony Thursday night, the group dedicated a plaque in a former billiards and cards room named Craftsmen Hall for the men who labored to create the temple. The hall will now serve as a Masonry museum and will be open to the public.
"It was great vision the Masons had ... to form the Cultural Center," said Nada Gilmartin, president of the Scranton Cultural Center Board of Directors.
