Ontario’s 53,000 Masons have a long history of generosity and support for causes that affect their communities.
This year, the Masonic Foundation of Ontario once again showed that deep commitment through a $120,000 donation to Prostate Cancer Canada.
"The funds will be used to develop an educational kit that will allow the Masons, survivor groups, corporations, volunteers, hospitals and other community groups to make effective, informed presentations on prostate cancer," says Rebecca von Goetz, vice-president of marketing and communications at Prostate Cancer Canada.
"It is a wonderful initiative," Ms. von Goetz says. "It is also one for which there was a need. It provides any interested person everything they need to explain prostate cancer, its impact and what is being done to fight it.
"The kit has all the necessary tools a layperson needs to promote a prostate cancer education event, deliver an informed presentation, show a Prostate Cancer Canada video, encourage questions and answers, provide takeaway information and gather feedback to Prostate Cancer Canada. We are certain the kit will help spread the word about the prevalence of the disease and the importance of PSA testing and early diagnosis."
