No Freemasnoury North Africa?

I was on UGLE site. I was looking at other sites of grand lodges. There was a site For South Africa. But North Africa why is that?

Ever been to North Africa? LoL. Not a lot of religious tolerance up there. Lots of warlords and dictators combined with rampant poverty and strife. We have Green Berets there now trying to help people topple some of the worst ones. Probably in the Sudan region.

Depends on the period. I'm sure there were some military lodges in the region during the Colonial Period. But the whole region has been run by bandits and pirates since the Turks gave the area to scumbags as a way to fight Spain in the region. Do a Google search of North Africa History.

East Africa is a mess to. It seems that South Africa is the only part of that Continent which is safe
That is a big fat no, as well, James. South Africa is facing a whole slew of problems currently.

High unemployment
Pollution
Crime
HIV & Aids (some estimates put it at 1 in 4)
Seriously, check out this link. http://www.dosomething.org/actnow/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-hiv-africa
No rural infrastructure
TB
Electricity shortages
Government corruption

Just to name a few. Want to see how fun South Africa is? Just watch a Die Antward video! LoL

Edit, the reason I am so familiar with the issues in Africa is because I was President of my University's STAND ( Student Anti Genocide Coalition) Chapter. http://www.standnow.org/

I think there's a point missing. South Africa is the NAME OF A COUNTRY. That's why there is a GL in SOUTH AFRICA. There is no such country as "North Africa" -- there are, however, the countries of Egypt, the Sudan, Morocco, etc., in northern Africa.

South Africa for decades was a colony of the British Commonwealth, so was governed from Britain, and by Boers (who were of European stock). So naturally the structures and social elements in SA reflect those of Europe -- and that includes Masonry.

The countries of northern Africa were only at the beginning of the last century freed from the crumbling Ottoman Empire, which was most certainly *not* a product of European enlightenment.

Where you find Masonry, you will also find elements of the European enlightenment. Usually, they will have been founded by expat Europeans, or native members of the population who had been educated abroad, joined the Masons, and wanted to bring those ideals home. For example, there are three Grand Lodges in Morocco, a former French colony, in North Africa. The Sudan? Not so much... ;)

Hello James,

Both links identify their jurisdiction, the first is GL of Philippines and the second is GL of Scotland.

There is no Grand lodge in South Korea. Why is that ? But korean lodges http://www.macarthur183.net/Home ,http://trumanlodge1727.com/
That's how it works. When the men of a country can find enough Masons to form a lodge, they can apply for a charter from a foreign Grand Lodge, in this case the Grand Lodges of Scotland and the Philippines. Once there are enough lodges in the country, they can join together to form their own grand lodge.
