Do you still use your paper dictionary or do you use an on line dictionary? I confess to using the internet and leaving my thesaurus and dictionary unopened. Even my cookery books are now languishing unopened because I use the internet to find recipes. Shall I throw away my reference books?
I do not think we have a dictionary in the house anymore. I used to have one, but it was old and falling apart. One of the reasons why I like Google though, it corrects my horrible spelling.
I use both . I keep a dictionary beside my chair along with Masonic , dog(breed and vet references) , aquarium reference books within easy reach .
I normally use traditional methods. I have a hard time reading computer screens. When work is slow, I'll sit down and read the Britannica on occasssion. Call me crazy.
It's funny , I had my laptop in my lap and my dog is having a problem with her ear (ear mites) and I did not go to a search engine , but reached for my Veterinarian handbook instead . Most people I know use google (or their search engine of choice) for all their quarries , I would rather use my books . I like the feel of paper in my hands and instead of wading through hundreds or thousands of results on Google , all I have to do is go to my index in the back of my reference books and go straight to what I am looking for .
I cannot read e-books. I've tried the kindle, but gave me a headache. Then again lately I've been getting headaches a lot more frequently on the computer. Could just be a pregnant wife yelling at me constantly though.
I have to admit that reach for my laptop when in search of answers. However, I still have my dictionary handy. I still have traditional books, but I'm going towards electronic and audible books, because they are easier to carry.
Call me old fashioned, but unless I'm already on the computer, I don't think of using it when needing a dictionary. We have several dictionaries strewn about and I'll grab the book before I'll log-on.
I use my computer and internet to work, but not to read books. I mostly use online dictionary though, and the only printed dictionary I use is a visual dictionary.
I too have tried the Kindle and/or reading books on line and it is just not the same . A Kindle just don't feel right in my hands , give me a book over one any day of the week .
I use a printed dictionary. I do a lot of training for school bus drivers and I will use the internet to find coverage for incidents that are not local to me. I use printed industry magazines for articles that cover these incidents also. Our society is moving at such a rapid pace any more, that a lot of times I just want to get into my chair and get lost in a book. I like to lean back and relax when I read and I find it difficult to relax and read a computer screen.
I also enjoy looking at a book in my hands. I have a dictionary, thesaurus, and an encyclopedia set. I will keep using both computer and book. I can't read a book online as it also makes me get sever headaches.
I love books and I find reading , be it a reference book , novel or what have you , an experience . Not only in the story , or information therein but the feel and smell of the paper , the sound the cover of a brand new hard cover book makes when it is open for the first time . It is something that can not be duplicated with some electronic device . I guess I am just old fashioned and love the look of all my hundreds of books lined up in my library , where I can go in there and close my eyes and pull the book I am looking for off a shelf by memory . That room smells wonderful , the smell of old and new paper and leather from my old leather bound books along with that big old leather chair and ottoman where I have sat and read so many books . I could never replace my books with a kindle or my computer , it is just not the same to me .
