WATERLOO — Funny red hats, small red cars and curly-toed shoes will fill King Street on Saturday when the Shriners come to town. As part of a biannual ceremonial, the Waterloo County Shrine Club will be joined by other clubs in the Mocha Shriners group in Waterloo, where current Potentate Barry Snider lives. The ceremonial is always held in the hometown of the Potentate. And in true Shriner fashion, they’ll be having a parade. Don Willcox, a member of the Waterloo Shrine said the parade is the public visage of the Shriners having fun. “We like to have as much fun as we can whenever we get together.” But Snider said it’s important to remember that the fun is always linked to their cause. As a group that fundraisers primarily for children’s health-care, it’s no real wonder that part of their goal is also in spreading smiles. The Waterloo County Shrine Club brings a circus to town every year, walks in every Oktoberfest parade and is even trying to establish a Clown Unit in town. read more TheRecord.com - Local - Shriners aim to have fun with Waterloo parade
