TIJUANA — Rather than transport young Mexican patients to Los Angeles for treatment, Shriners International is gearing up to offer surgery in Tijuana at the nonprofit Hospital Infantil de las Californias.
“The idea is so that children don’t have to go back and forth across the border. We’ll have a presence right here,” Michael Severe, Imperial Potentate of Shriners International, said Tuesday during a visit to Hospital Infantil.
The facility, which opened in 1994, is largely sustained by private donations, with much of the funding coming from its foundations in Canada and the United States.
