PETERSBURG - The Shriners are teaming up with a Colonial Heights orthopedic office in an effort to broaden the free services offered to children by the nonprofit group.
Shriners Hospitals for Children are best known for providing medical care for children with burn injuries.
Petersburg Shrine President Bill Brockwell said that this is not the only free service provided to children.
The hospitals are dedicated to providing medical and rehabilitative care to children up to the age of 18 with burn, spinal cord and orthopedic injuries, cleft lip and palate, and diseases of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Their three-fold mission is: to help and provide children with pediatric care, conduct research, and to educate and train medical personnel.
"The purpose of these services is to make the lives of children better by taking that financial burden off of the family," says Brockwell.
