The internet tin foil hat crowd went nutz when that song came out. Here's a quick blurb from Songfacts:

Here's the full interview with Mike Portnoy: Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater: Songwriter Interviews

As for me, I've never been a fan of metal except in junior high when I didn't know any better. For an entire album of progressive rock devoted to Freemasonry check out the band Freestone and the album Temple of Humanity. FREESTONE - Music inspired by Freemasonry

And the Magic Flute ain't bad, either. ;)

I've enjoyed a few albums from DT. Not a bad group at all.

Metal is different than progressive rock. Dream Theater fall in to the progressive category IMHO. I'm not a metal fan either.

I saw the last show they did in Florida 4th row center at Ruth Eckerd hall. Amazing musicianship.

DT is definitely Prog Metal in my mind. They literally created the genre. That said, they are definitely the least "metal" metal band I know. That's probably why they're so much more popular than most other metal acts.

I always reserved the label "Progressive Rock" for bands like King Crimson, Klaatu, etc.

Oh, and I'm jealous! I've never gotten to see them live.

I saw them three times.

I'm not sure how they will do with their new drummer. Mike Portnoy left the band.

oh, rub it in! lol I'd really have loved to see them with Scale The Summit, Opeth, and Bigelf on the Prog Nation back a while... but yeah. they don't like TX, apparently. They haven't been within 500 miles of me for several years.

The new guy's pretty awesome, but I do suspect a shift in the style.
