Well , it is done . The lodge elected me as Master AGAIN . All my officers were there and installed . Next year should be better as all the remodeling is done , I will not have to approve the spending of so much money as this year . Now I can concentrate on other things .
Congratulations. I certainly hope you won't get burned out. I understand your position, I was re-elected Secretary this year ---- 6th year now. I spoke with a brother who, until 2 years ago, had been Master of a small lodge for 14 years running, he finally spoke up and said he would not take the East again and the lodge has not fallen apart. Sometimes getting brothers to move up is like pulling teeth.
We had a few holes in our chair line , that I finally plugged up along with several 18 , 19 and 20 year old EAs' studying now who may want in the chair line next year .
Change is good in the East. I was just appointed as Marshal last week. Our JW was voted out and replaced with a PM. I was suprised, but apparently he wasn't filling his shoes. I assumed everyone just moved up. Guess thats why they say never assume...ass/u/me
That is right. Last year in Sesostris Shrine in Omaha the Chief Rabban was not voted into the Potentate's chair (in a normal year everyone moves up 1 chair) as he had done a very poor job as Chief Rabban, the membership voted someone else in.
I would be very surprised to see our current SW in the East. He hasn't done the work and only shows up for the occasional meeting. A kind PM has been filling in. The JW is going to be great in the West next year and even better in the East. It wouldn't surprise me to find our current JW being called "Most Worshipful" some day. The scary part is that I will be SD then JW if all goes as planned over the next couple of years :1-uh-oh:
I was unsure as to advancing to the SD then JW but now, looking back, it was more of a challenge than scary. SD is the best chair in the Lodge, you are part of all the rituals and the openings and closings.
It took me quite a while to nail the questions I have to ask the candidates before the EA degree and that's only one page long. Every officer in my Jurisdiction is supposed to know his own office and the one above him cold plus the one above that with minimal prompting. That means I'm supposed to know JD, SD and be working on JW. Thankfully, when I was installed as SS, I started right in on the JD role so I can at least do my job. I agree SD is a fun chair, but there sure is a lot of memory work for and old guy like me I guess that's why the Ritualist says that's the chair that separates the men from the boys.
That is one thing that bugs me. Why take an office if you do not plan on being there. It baffles me. And congratulations Ashlar for being elected again.
