Was just skimming Fox Sports and found out my baseball hero from my youth , Gary Carter , has passed away at the age of 57 from a brain tumor . I always asked for (and received ) the number 8 on my jerseys and became a catcher my entire time I played baseball because of The Kid .

Just went through and dug up all of his baseball cards that have been stored away in my sea chest , rookie card till his retirement and other of his memorabilia that I have hung on too through the years .

Carter was always thought of as baseball'successor to Johnny Bench. As someone who spent part of my life in L.A., I was excited when he became a Dodger.
