Worshipful Master Ken Woolsey announces that on August 8, 2011 at a Stated Communication, Goldsboro Lodge #634 officially invites visitation by the members of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina, and any other regular mason desiring to attend. -- bob J. Will this be the first crossover meeting? Nonetheless it should be a good time. If I could fly I'd be there, alas no wings.
It will be the first meeting in this District or county. The next town north of us, Wilson, NC, did this shortly after the Joint Compact was signed in November 2008, and I invited the Master who presided over the Lodge to speak to the local joint (PHA/MS) group to explain how it was set up. He had set a future date and announced it, so that members who did not support it could be elsewhere, but he emphasized the Master of the Lodge decides who visits. S&F
Maybe next Brother. I may be affiliating with the NC Masons as employment may take me over to Bragg. I hope the best for the meeting and the fraternal unity.
I wish I could attend. My GL doesn't recognize PHA, and mileage prohibits my attendance. Maybe some day...
Yuh cudda heard a pin drop! I doubt if I will hear much feedback on this. I am well known to strongly feel that Recognition is the right and Masonic thing to do. Back in '99, I lost a year in the chairs after vocalizing this at an open meeting. Those against inter-visitation don't talk to me about it because I ask them their Masonic justification for separation, and they can't. I hope to be happily surprised on 8/8. Lobby, petition, present resolutions, talk to the brothers. Interestingly, my GL now tells me that we have only Recognized NORTH CAROLINA PHA Masons. My newest MM Brother's boss is a California PHA Mason. I've been trying as hard as I can to get him to affiliate with a NC Lodge, so that we can stand in Lodge with him. S&F
I definitely will as I will probably go up to your area for some meetings like the York Rite College.
From what I understand we, in OH, recognize those PHA bodies that have recognition with the MS GL they share jurisdiction with and that the MWPHGLOH recognizes. That last part causes issues since from what I understand not every PHA GL recognizes the others
Recognition and visitation are two separate issues....as a OH mason I know you can visit or even dual membership with PHA...but you cant visit other PHA GL....as it is a violation with the GL of OH (MS)..... they do recognize several PHA GL...but no visitation outside of OH.... Only reason I know is.... because of fellowship I have with some OH masons...I am a RA Mason in OH
How the H___ can you have Recognition without visitation?? [BTW, I hear from the 'anti-'s' the same thing here, but the GM of the NC PHA was at our last Grand Lodge...] The Ancient Landmarks, by every list I've seen, state that it is the Right of a Mason to visit a Lodge. S&F
I will be honest here , there are so few PHA lodges left in Ky that the only time I ever give them any thought anymore is when I am on line as I have other worries with my personal life and being the head of three different bodies . There is not a PHA lodge within any reasonable driving distance to me , if I am remembering correctly the nearest one is well over 100 miles away . And as soon as I am away from the internet , they will soon fade from my thoughts .
The first part is above my pay grade..... Second (italics)..... but could the GM of another PHA GL besides NC be allowed in at the GL of NC ??? As for the landmarks..... not all GL recognize them.....
Last I read Texas has recognition but no visitation between the MS and PHA in the same state. I could be wrong however. Is is still the SEC and WV that don't? Oh and Bro. Ashlar a lot of the brothers around here feel the same. Apparently we offered recognition in the late 1800's but we wanted the PHA to change their name. All came to pass in 93 or 94. Other than that no one seems to think of them any different. If someone comes to our Lodge that PHA OH we welcome them and they've even sat in on degree work. A brothers initiation and my raising. From what I'm told though if a person a color petitioned our lodge in the 80's they would have been redirected downtown (where most of the PHA lodges are hosted in Columbus) and vice versa. The brother who helped with the EA directed his neighbor to the closest Lodge to where they lived but he stated he felt more "at ease" in the PHA lodges. Like less eyes were upon him.
