The WBC is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Their leader, Fred Phelps, has convinced his followers that God hates America for the reason that we tolerate homosexuals. Whenever a soldier is returned home to be buried, they feel that God killed that soldier as punishment for homosexual tolerance. Don't try looking for logic, there isn't any. Personally, I am disgusted by what the members do to their children, which is coercing them to believe that nonsense they spew at the funerals of soldiers, and then forcing the children to "preach" and "protest" with them. I am, however amused when they come to a town and expect no resistance, only to find that their archenemies, the Patriot Guard Riders arrived before they did. These wonderful men and women don't justify the arguments of the WBC by fighting them with violence, but rather, they counterprotest with American flags that obstruct them from view and patriotic music that is played so loud that those crazies can't hear their own hate speech. How do you feel about them?
I have a lot o friends and brothers who are Patriot Guard Riders. Great group of people and great Americans.
I performed a funeral for a friend's Dad this summer, the US of A Navy 'forgot', one phonecall by the cemetary director and there was this rumble... and there they were. Amazing 20 riders, 20 US flags, on poles, in a semi-circle backdrop, two of them folded a flag and did the presentation, all on their own, on their dime, and their tears of lose.
I got a buddy who is not much more than 5'5" and he is a wolverine in a fight..... The interesting thing about the WBC is that for the most part the congregation is made up of one family. There are very few members, if any, that are not related to the founder by blood or marriage. The hard part is that when they pull their crap and someone files a lawsuit against them, they usually win and then counter sue for damages which provides them the funds they need to travel to other funerals. A case against them is being heard by the supreme court this session, hopefully it goes in favor of the good guys. Interesting side note: the lawyer defending the WBC is the founders daughter. I cannot believe that someone has not attacked them and brutally beat them. I am not suggesting this course of action but I would understand it.
Brothers, if you'll have me, I'm with ya....I'm 6'2" 250 ....and I think I can talk my little buddy into standing with us.... he's 6"5" & 450+ he can't move real fast but he's a great anchor in a tug-o-war. He told me once that there has only been one person to ever knock him off his feet .... his sister. She is 5'6"
As much as I wholeheartedly believe in the freedoms of religion and speech... I can't believe our founding fathers envisioned their 1st Amendment being perverted so bad. And while I don't claim to know the mind of G-d, I'm pretty sure I have a good idea there as well.

I am visiting their website just to see what kind of psychos I am dealing with... Oh yeah, these guys are really psychotic. Did you all know that a bomb had been set off in their church? But you know, these guys are such zealots for the cause, that all it did was strengthen their resolve? It's like the more I hear about Fred Phelps, the more I want to see a great tragedy befall him, but all it would do is make them crazier. It's like zealots don't die, they just come back twice as mean and three times as crazy!
