DAYTON — A Huber Heights woman who stole nearly $500,000 from the Antioch Shrine was sentenced Friday, July 9, to three years in prison.
U.S. District Judge Walter H. Rice also ordered Wanda Fox to make full restitution in the amount of $478,287, which includes $368,287 restitution to Antioch Shrine, $100,000 reimbursement to the Shriners’ insurance company, and $10,000 to National City Bank.
Rice also ordered Fox to designate the Shrine as the beneficiary of her $105,000 life insurance policy.
Fox, 67, worked for the Shriners as a secretary, then as office manager, for nine years before her thefts were discovered.
“My feelings, reputation and character will never be made whole,” said Dwayne Jones, who was forced to resign April 1 as the group’s treasurer. Jones supervised Fox.
“Our finances are destroyed,” said Shriner Scott Lipps. “This is not a victimless crime.”
Lipps told Rice that the amount stolen is more than two years of members’ dues. More than 150 members have left the organization, and the Shriners cannot afford the $700,000 repairs to the building’s air conditioner unit, thus making it impossible to rent out the building during the summer months and build up revenues, Lipps said.
