I'll be going through those two portions of York Rite at a Festival this Saturday. To say Im excited would fall too short. Ive been wanting to do the York Rite degrees since I was raised back in 2003. Life put that desire on hold but now I'm finally able to do them. Commandery will be following real soon. :D

My lodge brother and friend is going through the Chapter degrees now . He will be going through the Holy Royal Arch degree in a couple of weeks and I asked to be the Captain of the Host so I could obligate him , it has been a year or two since I set in that chair and have been brushing up on it . I can not wait , I love that degree and I think I may be more excited than he is .

Im a bit concerned that im going to get the 'expedited' degrees since its all in one day. I dont want to miss out on any of the good stuff.

You will really have to pay attention . We tried a festival once , but found it too much on us and to much info for the candidates . We put our brothers through the degrees slowly one (maybe two degrees) at a time .

We did Chapter and Council on Saturday. I thought both were extremely interesting, but i would've liked to have been a candidate instead of a "class of many." I did get picked as the representative candidate for the Past Master degree. That was fun.

Going through them all at one time was very taxing and i missed parts of 2 degrees because i got a little drowsy. No way could i retain much of all the info that was presented.

Im disappointed that i didnt get the Commandery yet, because thats the one im most excited about. But on the other side of that im glad i didnt because i'll be able to give full attention to it when i do go through.

Like ODCs' in the the Blue Lodge , it is just to much to take all in one day . Take the Scottish Rite , I enjoyed it BUT left that day with very little knowledge . Not till I read "A Bridge to Light" did I get anything out of it and realized that I did not really need to go through any of the degrees , I could have just bought the books , saved myself some money , and received just as much knowledge .

It's true. I'm an ODC grad, and while I did pick up a lot, it still took seeing the Degrees again to really make it make sense. Taking my proficiencies really hammered them home.

Bro. Casey ,

Is taking the proficiencies mandatory , or is this something you wanted to do on your own ?

I ask my new Masons to learn both questions and answers as I did also . This way , if I lose my place they know where they are not lost .

LOL!!
Went to a FC Degree at one of my lodges last night. The EA returning his proficiency before his Advancement was being examined by a brother who twice asked a wrong question.
And the EA told him what the question should have been!

I have lost my place many times and have had the candidate straighten me out . The last time , the lodge voted to except the candidate's proficiency and voted to take mine away from me , I was having an off night .

I hope you enjoy Terry. My favorite York Rite degrees are the Royal Arch Degree and the Royal Master degree. Quite spectacular, but my all time favorite is the Order of the Temple.

Now , I personally think that the Royal Arch degree is the most beautiful and is my favorite , with the Order of the Temple a close second .
