Chapter & Council

Well.... I havent made it to any of the ones you have mentioned...BUT...I was VERY impressed with the Mark Master & PM so far....looking forward to my next one.....4-26....I will be going through this one just 8 days after having my shoulder operated on....told the Brothers from my Chapter about it just in case they wanted to reschedule...they told me they would make it work as long as it wasnt an issue for me....

Well our JW, SD and I the JD are going to join Chapter in the fall. In a few years we've become close so it's another bonding moment. Also, since in OH you need you PM to sit in the East it's the JW way of knowing he's successors are going to be set.

Is that really true Bukeye?? It seems like an odd requirement for a state to force a Mason to joint Chapter before progressing to the East. I know some lodges around here have enough trouble finding enough good men to go through the line without saddling that requirement on them. By the way, that's just an observation, not an opinion on the Capitular degrees. I'm a York Rite Mason myself and love the degrees, but I can see how it may not be for everyone.

I IN you have to be PM also but you dont have to join the YR.....they do the degree once a year for new WM.....same in OH.....I an going through YR in OH

There is a yearly PM convication that was refered to by Bro. Fireman. They do put this on but as we all feel close, we felt this would be a good thing to do together.

Well, I hope you enjoy and learn much from your York Rite Degrees. All are good, but some are, for lack of a better word, really cool!!

As another Buckeye, this is the first I've heard of this. I know for a fact our immediate PM hadn't gone through the YR Degrees- he just did this week.

Perhaps a Lodge tradition, but I've never heard of it Grand Lodge-wide.

Casey......the incoming WM doesnt have to join the YR.....he just goes through the PM degree.....in OH the new WM gets installed in December and each Masonic district will have a PM convocation (yes the GL of OH requires it) and at the convocation any incoming WM that hasnt been through the Royal Arch PM then will have to go through the degree at the convocation.

I would be surprised if many GL are much different....

The PM degree is optional in Ky . The true Past Master degree is put on by district Past Master Clubs . The York Rite PM degree is called the Virtual Past Master Degree and is an abbreviated version of the real Past Master degree . If you are a Master or Past Master and you want the Past Master degree , it does not matter if you went through the YR , you still have to go through the Past Master degree that the PM club confers as the YR VPM degree does not count .

They did the full version when I went through.....I had a former GM of OH give me the obligation....it isnt called Virtual ......its the exact same thing all new WM go through....but it is done as a separate degree if the incoming WM isnt in the YR
