*sigh* corn

I may have to look into some Owls/snakes then. I'd imagine you have to move them from time to time so the squirrels don't get wise to them being fake.
Wise squirrels can really upset the ebb and flow of nature...... if you think I am kidding...just look at monkeys... does Cornelius ring a bell.....:D

Yeah, sorry about that, mind on other things. I think he said once a week to move it.

I wonder with Halloween coming up if you can find something that moves by motion.

<hmmmm> Now you've got me thinking. I used to build simple animatronic halloween props as a hobby. Heheh... I could build some stuff, but it'd probably terrify my neighbors !LOL

Yes , you have to move them regularly or the birds will be using the owl as a perch .

No worse then the air cannons at the blueberry farms.

I wish I could find it. Someone made a sprinkler that was motion censored. It was pretty funny, there is a youtube video of it. If I can get some time later I'll try and look it up.

It has been over a week, but finally got to weed the garden today. Was going to do it yesterday but took the family pumpkin hunting. Got two and a half 3 gallon buckets filled of weeds.

Planted a few more rows of the winter garden. Got a few beets that I picked.

The late summer garden is doing sort of ok. The vine plants are dying off. The peppers and tomatoes are doing ok. Not growing real big, but producing. Pulled a hot pepper for my eggs the other day and the wife pulled a bell pepper today. Might pull the green tomatoes to fry them up.

Came out with my feet black, and my hands black, but feel more grounded. Starting to think some about next years garden. Maybe moving the compost bin, and adding some chickens somewhere.

I started plans for a garden space. I've been busy weeding and prepping the planned area. My little one won't leave me alone long enough to write or do research if I'm in the house, and it was such a nice day. I'm going to start small, and hope for the best.

I've got to do some research to find out what I can plant this winter. I'm going to try and build a small green house to start some seedlings. The winter's here in my neck of the woods get into the 20's and teens, so I'm not sure what I could put in the ground now that would make it to harvest.

Beets. They grow pretty fast. Maybe picking up some starters for things like cabbage, broccoli, leeks, and onions. Not sure if you can buy starter carrots or not. I forget what else I planted.

Now that I can find strawberries I've been planting them where I can find space to keep them permanently. My daughter will go through them like crazy. We had a small one and she was show everyone at the family gathering about two weeks ago. Then a squirrel got it. :( Got to let the dog loose on it.

Leeks and onions would be a good start. I'd like to find some strawberries. The family loves them. Those darn squirrels are pesky critters for sure. I just want to see how it goes so that I don't plant a whole bunch of things and wind up just feeding the wildlife...:1-sigh:

Check here About the Master Gardener Program - Master Gardener Program ? UF/IFAS They have a seminar Tuesday at Hudson Library on winter vegetable gardening. Bit far of a drive, but they may have something in your area. I went to one about two months ago in Land o Lakes. Pretty basic, but they have a list of what to plant in spring and fall and some other information.

University of Florida is really a great source. Organic Farming - EDIS - Electronic Data Information Source - UF/IFAS Extension

There is a few books I use too. If interested I'll dig them out. One is great as it tells you month by month for Florida. It covers grass, fruit trees, herbs, veggies, and more.

We have a cooperative extension office up here, I'll have to check with them.I forgot all about the Master Gardener's as a resource. They have pretty good prices on plants that they sell too.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd be interested in getting the title of that book for Florida gardening. I'll order it the next chance I get. Most of the books I have are for general gardening/propagation.

This is the one I mostly use for a reference Amazon.com: Month-by-month Gardening In Florida: Tom MacCubbin: Books

I see they have a revised copy for a little more
Amazon.com: Month-by-Month Gardening in Florida: Revised Edition (9781591862352): Tom MacCubbin: Books

This one has a little on veggies, but a lot on other flowering plants.
Amazon.com: Complete Guide to Florida Gardening (9781589792562): Stan DeFreitas: Books

Cannot find the other two I use, I may have lent them out, not sure. Really need to get a checkout card system going or something.

IFAS has most of the info free of charge. Might be in pamphlet form instead of book.
IFAS is a much under utilized source of info.
Their classes are mostly free and quite good.
Yeah, I used to work for them.

Were you a Master Gardener? If so, how did you find the program? Was the volunteer hours difficult to get in?

No. I wasn't in master gardners.
Spent alot of time with them working on projects. Asked a lot of questions and retained some of it. I enjoyed working there.
I don't remember any of them having a hard time getting in volunteer hrs. Seems like the office made use of them in different ways. Usually 2 or 3 daily at the Q&A desk. Some politics involved because of the coordinator. Small office here in Citrus but quite active.
