Wow. Y'all were busy this weekend, adding 3 or 4 pages to this thread.

a) I appreciate the candidness of both sides of this issue and am enjoying the discussion.

b) Welcome to some of you new comers (not like I've been here a long time m'self, but...). Great insights and additions to the board.

Once again , it makes me happy that this thread has ran for 13 pages and everyone has remained civil . I would hazard a guess that this would have become heated and would have been locked long ago on other forums .

Very true.
I suspect that since modern FM was formed during a time of gentlemanly behavior (!717) and as the world has changed towards less honorable behaviors, FM remains anchored to the old principles of that classic behavior.

Honor, chivalry, fairness, temperance are these not all the behaviors of old school gentlemen?

Well, according to my oldest daughters High school History books, the Founding Fathers were just a bunch of racist slave owning farmers that lucked into events that helped them write a document of a dreamy world, not their vision of the future and reality.

Ya Gotta love the "Revisionist History" types. These are also the people that wanted her to do a book report on Michael Moores "columbine movie" I told them she would, but it would focus on the inaccuracies and misinformation. The teacher told me the purpose was to teach them the second amendment was not about owning guns and guns are bad. That led to a conversation with the principal and the board about why they and their employee felt they had the right to "indoctrinate" my child into a libby agenda? I also quoted from and presented them with a copy of Lotts "The Bias against Guns" ....the assignment was pulled from everyone.
I REALLY lament the modern educational system and those running it.

And with each generation it's getting worse. When I was younger I started a teacher education program and then switched gears. Every now and then my wife will mention to me, "Why not go back to school and earn your teaching certification?" but really, I don't want to work in that environment. My wife says "you could teach in private schools or religious schools?" To which I reply, "We're planning on home schooling our kids, right?" She nods, and the conversation dies out for another day.

No disrespect but VirKnight gave a more insightful explaination.... I find your answers to be intolerant of the conservative POV.... you moral right and wrong may or may not be mine....whose right and wrong do you use....
No offense taken, brother. My brother VirKnight's staff is well-orn and has seen far more mileage than mine. I often defer to his greater wisdom and experience.

I'm not intolerant of the conservative POV; in fact, I believe mine to be the most conservative of those expressed. It is not at all progressive, but taken straight from the VSL. I attempt to live by the entire VSL, not the pieces that suit me best.

As far as where I take my moral right and wrong from... I would have to say from myself, the likes of which I hope to be in concert with Masonic ideals. I believe it's easy to sit in juidgement of another who is not like the judger. It's a tougher, and far narrower trek along a craggy cliffside to let our creator do his work, and not try to do it for him. As humans, we are flawed.

You are right about the war issue and religion BUT that is besides the point, science can be twisted to support you argument....or mine. We can look at the exact same thing and get two completely different answers.
My brother, it's hardly beside the point. The only ones who twist a scientific outcome are the ones who are not the scientists. Looking at the same thing and coming up with two separate answers is NOT an application of the scientific method, it's interpretive observation. Science seeks the truth through application of the scientific method, not the interpretation of the truth.

So...since the drug dealer is garnering income from the weak, whats your views on this.... A casino worker.... they garner income from people at a disadvantage....is a person who works in the gamblimg industry to be excluded? is gambeling immoral?
Not all who gamble are weak. I enjoy playing poker, but I do not do so to my own fiscal demise. Is THAT immoral? By counter example, if I lead you to a cliff, and you choose to jump, am I responsible for your actions?

I have a BA in Mathematics, and have been approached to teach several times. After substituting (with lesson plans, and not to babysit) several times to whet my appetite, I found the administrators and some of the teachers to be the people I did not want to be around. Brainwashing children is not teaching them.

Brother Psi Brr, while I do appreciate your POV, I believe we will have to ome to a mutual agreement that we will not be able to see eye to ey on this topic....which is fine. I will however not set and split hairs with you over differing ways to interpret things.
Like I have said before, as long as your vote is cast in a way that you can feel you have done in a honest manner then you are doing what is right. If you vote yes on this topic as acceptable in FM and you see no issues with it....that is your decision....If you vote no on this topic and do so with out malice and you feel it does not meet the moral standards you understand to be such in FM...well that too is your decision. I will not say either is more right or wrong than the other....it is a personal decision..... I do believe we set in judgement every time we cast a vote for a candidate, we are judging if that man is suitable to join the fraternity. We are judging him on all the aspects of his life.

Being a mathematician, I bet you do get into some of the interesting mathmatical relationships in Masonry......I have read a few articles where the author gets really deep into math equations.....it can give a guy that isnt a mathmatician a headache.

There's nothing like divine geometry! It was just one of the draws to Masonry for me.
