Charity status

I believe some Lodges have different status. I cannot speak for other Lodges, but ours does pay taxes. I do not believe we are a full charity status where we do not have to pay taxes. However, we are able to donate money before having to pay taxes.

How come Freemasons are given charitable status when no one actually knows what they do?
Are you talking about having tax exempt status ? I've never heard of a Masonic lodge being tax exempt . All the Lodges in my area pays taxes . There are charitable programs and special foundations that different state grand lodges have that may meet the IRS's reguirements for tax exempt status on said programs . But most individual Lodges have to pay taxes .
