Personally, I have several depending on the genre. My all time favorite is Tolkien's the Hobbit.

I have many favorites but the two at the top of my list are "Where is Joe Merchant" by Jimmy Buffett and "Watership Down" by Richard Adams .

"Watership Down" was were my love of reading began . Read it as a young buck for a school book report , I could not put it down .

My favorite movie is the original, black and white version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still". The new version should be burned.

Favorite book, "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein.

Heinlein for me, too, probably Starship Troopers, but only the book; the movie of the same name was some kind of tirade related to naziism. I have no idea why they shared a name.
It made me think seriously about the concepts of service and citizenship.

For movie it's Frequency- I would really love to be able to talk to my dad again.
For a novel, it's The Da Vinci Code- yes, I said it.
There are really many- it depends on the genre.
