the battles he spared us.

Please bless the stranger
in the muddy uniform.
Hold her bold heart
in the calm of Your capable hands,
until she can feel
the peace of home again.
Give her my thanks
for the freedoms she preserves,
the future she defends,
the ideals she embodies.

Please bless the children
admiring the uniform.
Guide them as they grow,
drawing then into Your wisdom,
into Your strength.

Give them my thanks
for all that this world can and will be
because of them—
Your strong and selfless soldiers.

I never heard a shot fired off the rifle range, but you are welcome.

I have stood in military reserve drills, in Lodge, in National Sojourners, and in homes with REAL heros - snake eaters, SEALS, people who jumped out of perfectly functioning airplanes, medics who ran toward the BOOM! before the dust even settled, citizens who accepted the invitation from the president without even thinking about it.
I am in awe of them.

10 years Navy here, and I have to say - I miss it sometimes.

You won't find a brighter, more dedicated fighting force than today's US Military.

God bless all my brothers and sisters in arms who are still out there doing the nation's business while we enjoy our lives at home.
