My mother made me promise her the other day that I will never join the Shrine . So I would be out voted by the two most important people in my life , the wife and my Mother should I ever change my mind . And my wife gives me free rein in my Masonic travels now , so I can not push it .

I'm in a similar situation. However, My mother hates that I'm a Mason. She drank the anti-masonic Kool Aid. Quite Frankly, I am just not interested in anything they have to offer. I find their Arab motif offensive, and if I want to drink, I can do that at home.

I have a great deal of love for several Masons who are Shriners and Jesters, but I cannot move myself to join the Shrine anymore.
