Why York Rite?

To me the Chapter degrees were the best part!!!

So true ! I have been through both Rites and the Chapter degrees were by far my favorites , more so for the Royal Arch . When that degree is conferred with the Companions in full regalia , the use of all our props , the lodge room lit up with nothing but candles and the Companions know the work , it just can not be beat .

One day I will go through Chapter- but not now. I have to say for SR- the 30th was my favorite- but I was the class candidate. Being knighted was pretty memorable and having my craft lodge WM escort me in, and having another PM as part of the ceremony was a high point for me. I discovered that he had requested that I be the candidate a week prior to the reunion.

I look forward to one day looking at Chapter, but now isn't the time.

I feel the same way about joining the SR. At some point in the future I will petition the AASR.

My brain would pop if I were to start having to memorize/learn a whole other set of ritual. Blue Lodge and YR are enough for me both time wise and mentally. One day I will petition SR... don't know when it will be but I am already looking forward to it.

No ritual to remember in SR at all. It's why you can go through all the degrees in 1-2 days. When I was the class candidate- I was just along for the ride, so to speak.

Hello 2SONDAD. For myself in YR and Blue Lodge I have found myself studying hard in order to help confer the degrees. I was not given much choice in the matter being appointed IM of Cryptic Council. I am however proud to have been asked and to be thought of as worthy. Next mission KS in RM degree. Don't get me wrong here... I really enjoy YR just so much to do and learn before taking on any new info or committing to any further time commitments. Being where we are one needs to be both the lion and the tamer.

Don't get me wrong either Brother- I admire you for being able to do as much as you do. One day I will add YR as well, when the time is right. I was just stating that there isn't any memorization in SR as a candidate.

I hear you and understand. Being in Wyoming we have 100 miles between towns and a low populace hence the reason you get dragged in pretty quickly to further responsibilities. I look forward to the time when I have Masonic ritual down enough that I can then re-look at the degrees for their deeper meaning. But... I love it and with every step I take on my journey I further understand my Grandfather who I swear although he has passed, is still by my side along for the ride.

This is an old thread but I thought I would add to it.

I think the symbolic lodge is the most important Masonic body any Mason belongs to! It gives a commonality that nothing else in Masonry does. With that being said the brotherly love in my Chapter, Council, and Commandery is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I continue to be very active in my Lodge but I am also going through the chairs in the Chapter as well. I turned down chairs in the Council and Commandery for the time being.
