Families lined the streets with children anxious and ready fortreats as the East Helena Parade — part of the 48th Annual EastHelena Rodeo activities — rolled down Main Street Saturdayafternoon.
Ducking into the shade provided by the VFW, Smith’s Place andother flat-faced business fronts on the south side of the street,the viewers got their share of classic cars, Shriners clowns andeven a Hawaiian-style surprise.
For those who didn’t want to line the sidewalks there was theshade provided by evergreens at Main Street Park, as well as plentyof activities like a climbing rock wall, musical acts and blow-upjungle gym.
When the first sirens of the leading police car riled up thecrowd, however, everyone’s attention — especially this year’sjudges’ — turned toward the entries in the parade.
Sitting out in the sun on a barren trailer bed, AlbertaStrachan, David Johnson and Jim Hildenstab were tallying up markson each of the floats as they passed.
