Stratford masons were interested in improving accessibility at the hall. The idea of putting an elevator in was tossed around in the past but the cost was too high. When the Festival approached the masons about putting on a play at the hall the idea went back to the members.

“Having the play here will be a very positive thing in the community. We hold concerts here on a regular basis and this will provide access to everyone,” said Stephen Budge, chair of the Stratford Masonic Hall Corporation.

The $300,000 project was approved. The masons did get a loan from the city but the entire cost of the project will be carried by the masons. The 425-square-foot addition will include stair-free, level entry to the building and a barrier-free washroom.
