Masons showcase work for charity

CLIFTON PARK -- For the past 24 years, Craig DeVoe has been a member of the Freemasons, a charitable fraternal order once associated with mystery and secrecy.

But DeVoe, who runs a century-old family fruit and vegetable farm, wants to dispel the old mystique surrounding the Masons and highlight the fraternity's philanthropic nature. On Saturday, DeVoe and his wife, Donna, will host a Masonic Charities Day at DeVoe's Rainbow Orchard, 1569 Route 9.

"Last year, we had the Shriner clowns come in for a day, but this year, we wanted to do something on a larger scale," DeVoe said. "There are so many charities involved with Freemasonry and we have a lot to offer the children and the community, but some people aren't aware of that."
