The Salem Shriners Club Circus fundraiser may have been dampened by rains late last week.

Shriner Buck Oulrey says attendance Thursday and Friday was down from the previous year, but there were many factors aside from just the weather. "We were down about 100 people for the two nights over last year... last year was our best in ten years," he says. "Income was down by about $1,500 and the job, economy and rain cut into that... Still, we are well satisfied and will be back again next year."

This year's circus performance was done through the George Carden Circus International and Oulrey says the response from those who attended the circus was very positive. "There were new, good acts and a lot of people really enjoyed them," he says. "I felt they had great performers and everyone I spoke to felt the same way."

Among the performers were tiger tamers, elephants, and acrobats. Oulrey expects a final fundraising total to be announced at a later date. He also thanks all of those who attended the circus as well as those who promoted the event.
