The APPROVED pronunciation (according to the GLofAF&AM of NC), is "hale," or "hail," but when practicing on the memory work, I prefer the alternate "heal," as the rhymes assist in remembering.

It was also used by farmers long ago to describe putting a seed crop on the ground and concealing it with soil.
