Words: Repair

Bob Franks

Past District Deputy Grand Lecturer
"Repair before the East for the Lecture."

(OK, I know the context will give this one away.)

Really... am I the only one for whom these words aren't problematical?

Does anyone else remember George Carlin?

"Now that I've shared this affair of the hair
I think I'll repair to my lair and use Nair.
Do you care?"

Repair: verb To transfer oneself to another place.

I agree. .... Defining 'repair' as 'Return' implies the person was previously in that place or just came from the place. Thus 'return' to the place.

In my ritual the word is used only one time. By order of the WM to the JD, 'Repair to the anti-room and ascertain if any Candidates are in waiting. ...' Here, there is no indication the JD has just came from the anti-room or that he has previously been in the anti-room. Therefore, 'repair' can only mean ('betake one's self', 'take yourself') ... ie: GO.

Who says they are problematic for the rest of us? Just because your definition doesn't agree with mine (or anyone else) doesn't mean we have a problem. ...
