Most everyone knows that I am a huge nerd. LoL A badge I wear proudly. :D

I just passed my Officer Command Course at Starfleet Academy and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in Starfleet International. I am the Science Officer aboard the USS Tiberius, NCC-50210, out of St. Petersburg, Florida. A Sovereign Class starship similer to the Enterprise E.

Congrats! I often wonder how you afford your sci fi hobbies. Id love to do stuff like this and more especially the 501st..

But alas, my budget is a wee bit thin.

I do most of my hobbies on a very tight budget. I make almost all of my own costumes. And a lot of the activities outside of conventions are very low cost as well. If you want to fly your geek flag, do it! :D

I have been a fan since I was a child. Many years ago I had the opportunity to get to know Nichelle Nichols and she was a very classy lady, IMO.

I just finished reading the last book in the TNG: Cold Equations trilogy. (At least I think it's only going to be a trilogy.)

So why haven't you joined Starfleet yet?

Nah, I've always wondered about ol' Gene for OTHER reasons. ;)

It's been ages since I've been to a con. :(

I have been an attendee at cons for the majority of my adult life. They are some of the fondest memories I have. I still bend my schedule as needed to make the major ones. The camaraderie I experience at them and the friendships I make and continue are very reminiscent of of Freemasonry. Not to mention the shopping.

The only con I ever went to was in the 70's. I was about seven years old.

I actually bumped in to George Takei in an elevator, and got to sit down and have breakfast with him. Very nice man.

James Doohan was a little snobb though.

Ill have to look in to the Starfleet international. Looking at the requirements for the 501st, i dont know how I could pull that off. I want a stormtrooper costume, and those are not cheap by any means.

Yeah, attempting to join the 501st is not to be taken lightly! You don't even have to have a uniform to join Starfleet. Just $15!

But if you really want to join the 501st, it can be done without selling ALL your children into servitude. One of the costumes that many people begin with is the Imperial Bridge Crew. It is a very simple costume that is easy to assemble and can be done very inexpensively.

The imperial Crewman costume has several benefits. First, it is one of a handful of relatively inexpensive entry level costumes for people to get their feet wet in Star Wars costuming and to get approved for membership in the Legion. Secondly, this costume is the foundation for several others that can built upon it, like TIE Pilot or Imperial Gunner. And once you become a member of the 501st Legion you have access to the restricted members only boards and resources that make costuming much easier and less expensive.

As you can see, Imperial Crewman was my first costume. ;)

In contrast, Starfleet does not have the rigorous costuming requirements that the 501st legion does. Although many members of the 501st are members of both and bring our high level of screen accurate costume expertise to Starfleet as you can see on the 1701st forum.

And of course, let me know if I can be of any assistance in either!

Edit: One of the most comprehensive resources for prop and costume making is the RPF.
