Proper wearing of a Masonic Ring

PatrickWilliams

I could tell you ...
I wear my rings with the S&C outward.....so I can easily detach them and throw them as Mini-Ninja stars, subduing my opponent with the greatest of ease.....or did I just dream that? wait, why am I typing slightly out of sync with what I am thinking?
Okay, Tom ... no more coffee for you.

Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha...I will drink the coffee, then show you my Mighty Kung Fu. I will use the Mason technique, which is similar to the horse, tiger and dragon technique, but with a more level approach. Bwa-ha-ha-ha.....

he said more level approach....who said masons arent funny...LOL...King... I suggest you give either Monster ( I prefer the Blue ones) or reBull a try...that will get your day going good!!!

Is anyone in a lodge in TN? I am currious as to the stance of the GL of Tennessee on wearing rings, since I just moved to TN from PA after being Raised.

In order to have a constant reminder of what I should strive for on a daily basis I had a small 1" S&C tattoo placed on the inner wrist of my right hand (Mainly because I knew I'd lose a ring in no-time!). I had all intentions of having the points face me because I was getting it for me to look at and I didn’t care if it was upside down when other people saw it. Luckily my tattoo artist knew quite a bit about the subject and helped me understand why the points should face away from your body.

In retrospect I am so glad I decided to go with his advice. When I look at it every single day I don't even notice that it’s upside down anymore; I am still reminded of the lessons the Craft has taught me, which is why I got it in the first place.

Speaking of masonic tats...here's mine....I went with the points out so the person looking at it could read the "2B1 ASK1" around it.I put this in another thread...Its a UV tattoo, only visible under Black light.

How was that spot getting the tattoo? Hurt worse then others? I would imagine it would be sore. But my friend said where I got mine was the worst spot he ever had done.

This is how some old timers i have talked to says is the proper , unwritten way . When you are first Raised , wear it as you viewed it when you took your Obligation . And after you become a Past Master , you wear it as you viewed it from the East .

How many guys wear a pinky ring???....Or how about this one....I know a few older Brothers that wear their ring on their left hand....not a AASR ring...regular Blue Lodge ring....

The best answer I have heard came from a brother in my lodge:

"I wear my ring with the square and compasses facing inward (towards me). Why? (1) That's how my dad and grandpa wore theirs and (2) I don't wear it to show the world I'm a Mason, but to remind myself of my obligations as a Mason. "

My personal take on it is that It's not so much the direction of the ring, but the direction of the man that is important.

I couldn't agree more. I don't need a piece of jewelry to remind me of my obligations: they are written on my heart. I wear my ring proudly, because I am proud and pleased to be a Mason. Wear your Masonic jewelry proudly, too - no matter the orientation of the s&c.

Great posts, but which hand? I'm left, points towards me. I lost my wedding ring years ago and only wear my ring when I'm dressed up. I'm not much for jewelry, my ring was given to me by the widow of my next door neighbor who was in the same lodge as my father, #3 Solomon Lodge, Phila.. My Mom hocked my Dads ring before I became a Mason, and when my neighbor heard the story she gave me her husbands ring+-+++++.

It means alot to me. His name was Art Nelson, and he was a WWII paratrooper, and I think of him and my Dad everytime I wear it. You can't buy that feeling.

My instructor and I had this discussion a few years ago when I was going through the catechism. He is a 33 and said to me that it doesn't really matter. He wears his with the point facing upright when making a fist, so anyone can see it clearly. He says to me "I know I'm a Mason, and I know how to act like a Mason. This is so everyone else can see I'm a Mason." That was good enough for me.

I was told years ago by an elderly Brother to wear it as you first saw the S and C. However I read in the PA Freemason that it is really up to the wearer. Personally, one I became a PM I wear the points outward as you described.

I have found the proper way to wear a Masonic ring is on my finger .

Winter , I was at a side degree one time when a brother from Ohio sat down across from me at the dinner table and had a S & C in each ear lobe . Made me do a double take .

The only jewelry a man should wear is wedding ring, masonic ring, military academy or esteemed university ring and his dog tags. All others are superfluous, destined for the gavel and chisel. One man's opinion, anyhow. Earings are a definite no no.
